Germany’s health minister tests positive for COVID-19 – The San antonio Occasions

BERLIN (AP) — Germany’s health minister, an epidemiologist by training that has brought the country’s combat COVID-19 since December, has tested positive for that coronavirus.

Health Minister Karl Lauterbach’s ministry stated early Friday the 59-year-old only has light signs and symptoms and it is working at home. It stated that Lauterbach has already established four vaccine shots and the infection “shows that, using the highly contagious omicron variant, contamination can’t be entirely eliminated despite utmost caution.”

Germany, like a number of other countries, has witnessed large — though lately declining — figures of cases this summer time as new subvariants of omicron drive infections.

The federal government stated on Wednesday that some fundamental limitations would stay in place throughout the coming winter and fall, when experts expect COVID-19 cases to increase again as people take more time inside.
